How long does a solar panel installation take?

Checked 2 November 2026. Start work before the letter of offer and you lose the grant.
Does the installer have to be SEAI registered?
For the grant, yes: SEAI only pays when an SEAI-registered company does the work and it's the company named in your letter of offer.
From SEAI, Solar Electricity Grant. SEAI doesn't approve, guarantee or warrant any company or its work, so read the quote line by line. You need to own the home (private landlords count), have an MPRN, and the home must have been built and occupied before 2025. SEAI can't have paid for solar PV at that MPRN before. Use an SEAI-registered company, get SEAI's letter of offer before any work starts, finish within 8 months, and have a BER done after the install (SEAI Solar PV Scheme Application Guide, v6.0, 12 Oct 2026).
What should a Kerry solar quote include?
Eight things, and the Kerry ones are salt air, wind and hills.
- The panel make, how many and their wattage, and the total kWp: the grant is worked out on kWp (SEAI Solar PV Scheme Application Guide, v6.0, 12 Oct 2026).
- The inverter, and whether it can take a battery later.
- If you want a battery, its size: SEAI's €600 is for 5kWh or more (SEAI Solar PV Scheme Application Guide, v6.0, 12 Oct 2026).
- Near the sea (Dingle, Cahersiveen, Kenmare, the coast roads): panels tested for salt mist under IEC 61701, and what the fixings are made of.
- How the mounting is fixed and the wind load it's rated for. Valentia has recorded gusts of up to 88 knots (Met Éireann, Valentia 1991–2020 averages).
- A shading and horizon check if there are hills to the south. Around Cahersiveen they take about a fifth of December's output (EU PVGIS 5.2).
- That the installer sends the ESB Networks application and who books the BER.
- 0% VAT on panels for a home, stated on the quote (Grant Thornton).
