Who qualifies

You need to own the home, use an SEAI-registered installer, and get your grant offer from SEAI before any work starts. SEAI must not have supported solar panels at that address before, and the home must reach a BER of C or better after the install (SEAI). The cut-off for when the home was built was widened on 6 October 2026 (pv magazine, 30 Sep 2026), so check the current date on SEAI's page.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Get quotes and pick an SEAI-registered installer. Sign a contract with them, but don't start any work yet.
  2. Apply to SEAI for your grant offer. Wait for the offer before anything is fitted. Offers are valid for eight months.
  3. Your installer tells ESB Networks. This takes at least four weeks.
  4. The panels are fitted. Usually in a day. You pay the installer.
  5. You get a post-works BER. Its cost is included in the grant. The home must reach BER C or better.
  6. Your installer sends the paperwork to SEAI. SEAI pays the grant, allowing up to six weeks, longer if they inspect.
